Play TriPeaks Solitaire Online for Free

TriPeaks Solitaire, also called Tri Towers or Three Peaks, is a fast Solitaire game that mixes luck and planning. Suits don’t matter. All you need to know is whether cards are one rank higher or lower.

TriPeaks Solitaire Objective

Win TriPeaks Solitaire by clearing all 28 cards from the three peaks, moving each one to the waste pile when it’s one rank higher or lower than the card on top.

Each game starts with 28 cards dealt into three overlapping pyramids that share a bottom row. The 18 cards in the peaks start face down, and the 10 cards in the bottom row start face up. A face-down card flips over once both cards covering it are cleared. The rest of the deck makes up the stockpile.

TriPeaks Solitaire Rules

The rules of TriPeaks are easy to follow, but because most of the cards start face down, there is an element of unpredictability.

• Start by moving a face-up card to the waste pile or flipping the first stockpile card. Choose a starter card that will give you the longest chain.
• Play cards one rank higher or lower. A card can go on the waste pile if it’s one rank above or below the top card, in any suit. For example, if the top card is a 6, you can play a 5 or a 7. If you play the 7, you can follow it with a 6 or an 8.
• Draw from the stockpile when you get stuck. When no peak card fits, flip the next stockpile card onto the waste pile and continue from there.
• You only go through the stockpile once. If you’ve emptied it and there are still cards in the tableau, the game is over.

Wrapped Ranks and Game Settings

By default, ranks wrap around in TriPeaks on SolitaireStreak, so you can play a King on an Ace or an Ace on a King. This keeps chains going and makes the game a bit easier. For more of a challenge, turn off Wrapped Ranks in Options > Settings > Game Options, and Aces and Kings become dead ends.

If you get stuck, you can replay the deal with Restart to try a different path through the peaks, or try a new deal with New Game.

Click-to-move is on by default, so you can play a card by clicking it instead of dragging it to the waste pile. You can turn it off in Options > Settings > Game Options.

TriPeaks is closely related to Pyramid Solitaire, which also deals cards into a pyramid, but in Pyramid you clear cards by pairing them to 13 instead of building chains.

Tips and Strategies to Win TriPeaks Solitaire

In TriPeaks, every stockpile card you use is one you can’t get back. These tips will help you make the most of each one and clear more peaks.

• Look for the longest chain before your first move. Before you play a card, trace a few possible chains through the face-up cards. For example, if you can play 6, 7, 8, 7 or 7, 6, 5, choose the first because it clears more cards.
• Choose moves that flip face-down cards. When two cards could go next, play the one that uncovers a face-down card. Every new card you reveal gives you more options for the rest of the chain.
• Work on all three peaks. Spreading your plays across the peaks uncovers more face-down cards and keeps you from getting stuck with one tall peak at the end.
• Only draw from the stockpile when you’re out of moves. You only go through the stockpile once, so play every card you can from the peaks before flipping the next one.
• Plan around Aces and Kings. With Wrapped Ranks turned off, an Ace can only be followed by a 2 and a King only by a Queen. Try to play them in the middle of a chain rather than at the start, so they don’t end it early.
• Recognize when a game can’t be won. Compare the cards left in the stockpile with the cards still in the peaks. If there are far more peak cards than stockpile cards and no long chains left to play, it’s often better to start a new game than to play it out.
