How to Play Klondike Solitaire Turn 3
Objective
Win Klondike Turn 3 by moving all 52 cards to the four foundation piles, building each one up by suit from Ace to King.
Rules
Klondike Turn 3 is a more difficult version of Turn 1 because you can only access every third card in the stockpile. Like Turn 1, gameplay consists of four areas: the seven-column tableau where you sequence cards, the stockpile where you draw from, the waste pile where drawn cards are placed face up in order, and the foundation piles where you build each suit in ascending order. Follow these rules to play:
- Build foundation piles in ascending order by suit (A♥, 2♥, 3♥, etc.).
- Sequence tableau cards in descending order, alternating color. For example, 7♥ can be placed on 8♣.
- Move single cards or descending, alternating sequences within the tableau. For example, you can move a 8♦, 7♠, 6♥ sequence onto a 9♣.
- When you run out of moves, flip three cards from the stockpile to the waste pile. Only the top waste pile card is playable. The two cards beneath it remain blocked until the top card is played or until you cycle through the stockpile again.
- Fill empty columns with Kings or sequences that begin with Kings.
- Cycle through the stockpile as many times as needed. In Turn 3, each time you play a card from the waste pile, the order of the remaining cards changes. This means the card you need might appear sooner or later when you cycle through again, so planning ahead is key.
You win by building all four foundation piles from Ace to King by suit. However, if you run out of moves before this happens the game is over.
Tips and Strategies
- Reveal hidden cards in the tableau early. Just like in Turn 1, your top priority is exposing face-down cards. The more you uncover, the more flexibility you’ll gain.
- Clear large stacks first. Focus on columns with the most face-down cards. Freeing these cards early opens more sequence-building options.
- Build foundation piles evenly. Avoid moving higher cards to the foundation too early if you still need them to build sequences in the tableau. Keeping them in play can prevent stalls later in the game.
- Track cards in the waste pile. Since you only see every third card, mentally note the sequence of cards in the waste pile. This helps you time your moves so the card you need appears on top when you cycle through again.
- Delay stockpile draws when possible. If you have moves available in the tableau, make them before drawing from the stockpile. This prevents accidentally burying a card you might need immediately.
